A Mental holiday

Taking into account the challenges life tasks us with, you have to wonder how we are ever meant to carry out the suggestion placed before us by the medical profession that we should get ourselves a hobby and learn to relax.

I mean, when there is so much to do just to get through the standard working day let alone the not so standard when we are expected to put in the additional hour, or two, quite often more, when do we have the time for hobbies.

Mentally, we are challenged every single day, not just with work but family life that melds so easily into work, it just feels like there is never a release and never ever time for something as ridiculous as a hobby.

When we start to believe we have no time for a hobby or something different to work to give us a break, then that is when we have to tell ourselves we are doing too much and we need a diversion, something totally left field that can take our mind away from the stresses involved in our work routine.

As for myself I watched an episode of Bob Ross on TV, a program about painting, and I immediately thought “I CAN DO THAT”.

Of course your distraction does not have to be art it could be music or writing the choice is yours but for me I chose art.

I have been painting now for just over two years full time that is, I have actually been painting for much longer and I have to admit initially I didn’t find it easy.

Time, as with all of us, is continuing to be at a premium we can’t help but tell ourselves we don’t have enough of it. The thing is, once we allow ourselves to delve deeper into the fabric of our hobby, whatever it be, the more time seems to give you a little bit more.

Now we come to the interesting bit, I developed my skill as a painter and began to encourage people to see what I had created and comment about what they thought, good or bad, regardless of what they said I found I was able to relax and enjoy what I was doing, so much so I started exhibiting my work thereby meeting with more people and feeling better about myself and my life.

My painting was allowing me to create a world away from reality a world where I could be carefree and happy, and because I was sharing my world with you my followers I was giving a part of my world, my new world, to someone who could see a way to escape for a few moments into a realm of fantasy, maybe walking along a beach or admiring a waterfall or just seeing something that took you back to a long lost memory.

It is for me one of the best things I have ever done, I enjoy painting, and when someone comes to me and asks to buy one of my creations there is more than just the transaction to discus there is a story to be told as to why I painted that particular scene and at the same time what it was that made that painting stand out.

Taking that mental holiday away from the outside world and diving into my place of rest and sometimes adventure has turned out to be one of the best things I have ever done. So maybe when the medical profession tells us to do something we believe to be ridiculous perhaps we should have a second thought and reconsider our options, who knows you may enjoy your new found skill, as I said earlier it may become the best thing you have ever done. Should your new found skill be painting I will welcome you to a beautiful holiday and ask you to remember that painting is easy until you learn how to paint.

My best wishes to you all my friends God bless and enjoy, whatever you decided to do.
